OK….In therapy….Tony openly admits to Melfi that his own people are pushing him to execute Vito based on the suspicion that he is gay. Vito is a high-ranking mafia captain in charge of construction projects, union business, etc. If Vito did end up getting whacked surely it would be in the newspapers and it is reasonable to assume Melfi would hear/read about him and make the connection. I understand certain ethical/legal restrictions prevent her from leaking her “privileged” conversations with Tony to the public/authorities/her own family/anyone but since when does Tony openly broadcast his crimes to her. Hasn’t this been an issue in the past? That “big parts of his life are closed off to her”? He once asked Melfi if he ruined her Christmas by alluding to the fact that he killed pussy because he was an informant and now he is just straight up informing her about potential murders….and she’s taking it in with a smile? I dunno….seems strange to me.

2Melfi has a Duty to Warn, in the case of threatened suicide or homicide. It was not clear to me that Tony was, in fact, threatening to kill Vito during the session. Rather, it appeared to me that the work was done around his own feelings and ambvalence toward homosexuality. Melfi did a good job in assaulting the discrepancies in his position on this subject. Ultimately he appeared to soften in his expressed attitude.
He seems to "talk around" particular issues, thereby allowing her "in" just enough to make their time productive, but not in adequate detail for her to respond by enacting exclusion to confidentiality.

5Mr. Geb, I'm entirely with you on the main point of your post, which is the marked change we are witnessing in both the candor Tony is offering about his mob-related life and the seeming casualness with which Melfi is receiving it. In view of the NDE and the sheer length of their association, I'm not surprised at Tony's emerging candor, but I am surprised that Melfi seems so comfortable treading those waters.
I agree that the "threat" to Vito's life was very vague, but it was still there. Yet Melfi's demeanor remained as if they were shooting the $hit about annoying cell phones. I'm not challenging her response on ethical grounds, just noticing that she is inching closer and closer to the inside of his life and is not flinching as much as I thought she might.

Did anyone else get the sense that Tony's attitude toward Melfi has changed? At first I thought Tony would eventually talk to Melfi about the shooting and everything thereafter (and he may as yet)... but now I'm not sure.
First of all, it's clear that he still hasn't talked to her yet. When he says 'I had a second chance, why shouldn't he?', Melfi tries to prod once again 'part of your new outlook?', and he pushes her away again 'Maybe'...
Directly after the therapy session, we go to Tony and Carm in the bedroom, where Tony tries to talk to Carm about his problems with Junior (btw, his reference to Melfi's ideas re. Junior and his mom are from episode 1, not some off-camera session).
I don't really know what to make of it, but I get the sense Tony's pushing Melfi away and (less sure about this) trying to relate better to Carm. Or something... what?
Also, a thought I had (before this episode aired) was: is Tony still on prozac? After his operation, I thought he wouldn't be on it b/c he seemed happy and stress free as it was.
Edit: Another supporting argument: Did anyone else notice anything weird during that therapy session, physically I mean? The first time I was watching, I was convinced that Melfi's office looked different - that she had re-decorated, or added some things.. I dunno what. Maybe suggesting Melfi wasn't as familiar to Tony anymore. I've gone back and checked Member's Only - office looks the same... I dunno. Also, notice how nice (formal) each of them is dressed. They both look about as sharp as we've ever seen them.
Some people mentioned on another thread all the materialistic references in this episode (Yachting, Robb magazine) - the dress thing may have more relevance in connection to that, but I think it applies here as well.

8my initial thought is they are just trying to show what happens to ANY relationship that lasts for the better part of a decade.
i mean, its been what? 6-7 years that these two have been a part of eachother lives. i guess they are comfortable with one another.
but in all honesty....i really wanna see them fuck. lemme rephrase...i really want to see these TWO particular, specific characters on THIS particular tv show have sex. i would feel better as a human being if this happened. im pretty sure air would taste fresher.
