James Gandolfini passed away recently and he was way too young. If he had passed away in 2006 before the filming of the final season, David Chase would have had 2 options:
Write his death into the script of the final season
or
Choose another actor to play the role of Tony Soprano for the final season(This has been done before when Dick Sargent replaced Dick York for the final seasons of Bewitched)
Which option would you prefer and do you have any suggestions for a replacement actor for James Gandolfini?

none of the above, they would have to cancel the show.

I honestly don't know what's better in that situation like that - but to choose another actor? No way, impossible.

James Gandolfini was Tony Soprano, end of! Nobody else could've played him!
