I agree that this was one of those episodes that looks to be more of a "place-setter" than one with monumental plot turns or one like "College" with a tidy beginning-middle-ending.chaseisgod wrote:Upon further review, and perhaps this has been obvious to everyone else, but what this episode accomplished was to gradually tighten the vise on Tony (gambling problem, money woes, trouble with Phil) at the same time they removed the supportive emotional pillars in his life.

202Ha! I hadn't thought about it but maybe those panic attacks were keeping him humble. Without the threat of a panic attack, Tony has become more balls-y-er than ever and way too high strung.ldrollins wrote: Lately I've been picking up on a distinct Livian tone to his speech as well. I don't know what the hell is going on in that brain of his but the future looks grim. He needs to have another panic attack. It's the only thing that will save him.
Re: Episode Review and General Comments: 'Chasing It'
203I miss episodes like "college," when we didn't have to worry about the end of the show. This episode didn't have any murder, which is a first for this season.
Re: Episode Review and General Comments: 'Chasing It'
204Huh? No murder? Isn't that the episode where Tony finds that no matter where he goes, his business goes with him?

(quoting from the HBO web site):
Tony escorted Meadow on a series of visits to colleges in Maine, and the trip went pretty well. Tony and Meadow even talked about Tony's business." But then Tony spotted an old "friend" at a gas station, and everything changed.
The "friend" was Fabian "Febby" Petrulio, made man turned rat, who entered and then dropped out of the Witness Protection Program. Febby's now known as Fred Peters, travel agent.
So Tony spent the better part of his trip to Maine dropping Meadow off at college interviews and then trying to get the drop on Petrulio. When he finally did catch up to him at the travel agency, Tony sent Febby on a one-way trip by means of a wire around his neck."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That was a murder. Maybe you are thinking of another episode? There was one called University. I don't recall if there were any murders in that one or not. Oh wait. Oops. That was the one with Tracee the dancer. There was definitely a murder in that episode - and it was a very grizly, gruesome and grotesque murder at that!

Re: Episode Review and General Comments: 'Chasing It'
205No I was talking about "Chasing it," as far as the murder goes.
Re: Episode Review and General Comments: 'Chasing It'
207I think they are saving up the murders for later this season, feast or famine, ya know.
Re: Episode Review and General Comments: 'Chasing It'
208Was Renata, Hesh's live-in companion/lover, whacked?
When Tony came over to Hesh's house right after her
sudden demise with all the cash he owed him in a paper
bag, Tony was cold, abrupt, almost evil, as though Hesh
got what he deserved by asking Tony for the money in the
first place. Talk about payback time!

Re: Episode Review and General Comments: 'Chasing It'
209It doesn't seem like the question was ever answered one way or the other.
But it seems very unlikely that she was killed by Tony or any of his guys.
My reason for saying so is that if she was killed, the method used to kill her was extremely sophisticated - like CIA sophisticated. The LCN doesn't kill like that. They usually use a gun or some kind of violence.
If Renata was killed, she was killed with some super-secret poison or something. That's just not Tony's style.
I would say the probability that Tony killed her or had her killed was about the same as one chance in a googol. Remember AJ's SAT tutor who asked him the question about a googol of zeros? A googol is a "one" followed by one hundred zeros - IOW it is ten to the power 100.
By the way, a "googol", which is a number is very different from "Google", which is the Internet search site.

210I think HBO said she died of a stroke on its Sopranos website.Splishak wrote:It doesn't seem like the question was ever answered one way or the other.

Why would they have her killed? It doesn't make sense. Tony whacks Renata to get back at Hesh because he owes Hesh money, then repays Hesh the money because Renata is dead?
