Jonelikate,

If I'm not mistaken, might it have been a discussion with the Orthodox Jews? or maybe Hesh?

I recall a great scene where they discussed the battle of Masala where the Jews chose to suicide themselves rather than surrender to the Romans and imprisonment.

My recollection is kind of weak. But I remember there was a TV movie (I'm so ashamed that I don't remember the real history) where several hundred or several thousand Jews all suicided and left their dead bodies for the Romans to "capture".

The OC boys may have been talking with Hesh abuot this incident and identified themselves as the descendents of the Romans.

Jonelikate,

Yes, that quote that directly links the old Romans with modern day O.C. italian descendants has long stuck with me as well. That was when i really realized how Chase connects the Roman history so much with the present mob structureand characters, and why i love it so much that they showed some historic Roman sites (from when the ancient Romans occupied what is now France) during Ro & Carms trip to Paris. I remembered Tony's line- "you're lookin' at 'em"...when Carm started admiring the ancient gold-jewel necklace that another Roman (italian) wife wore in France/Gaul way back 100's of years ago. I realized how we were lookin' at more modern day (female) Romans in that scene.

BTW, that quote came from (ep?) when the crew was supposed to get the hassidic motel owner to give the daughter of the rabbi what she wanted- divorce?/settlement, etc. and he just wouldn't budge, so Tony had to call up Hesh in the middle of the shakedown and get advice. Hesh tells them-- "what is the one thing a man can't live without?..." (!)-- And Tony cracks a little knowing smile, goes back in to the room and applies a 'more urgent incentive' to successefully get the guy to comply. Later when the rabbis can't get rid of Tony's crew interfering in their business, they bemoan the fact that they have now "created a golem" -- another great and memorable line.

Season 02 - Episode 05

Scene setter: Tony goes to Livia's house to confront Janice about attempting to borrow money on the house. He's very pissed to say the least. When he arrives Janice is not home but Richie Aprile is there. He obviously spent the night, which makes TS even more pissed. Richie says something in reference to thinking about Janice and their past history together.

Tony's reply: "Ten years (jail time) and you thought about Janice? There are men in the can better looking than my sister."

SCENE SET UP:

Im not exactly sure which season ... but junior wants more money. Cause his trial costs so much. Tony of course doesn't want to do it. He's all frustrated and makes a meeting of the capos. He's yellin at 'em sayin' what they kick up is pitiful, EVERYONE HAS TO KICK UP MORE .

Tony: "..And I don't want to hear about the economy. Sil, tell them what two businesses are virtually recession free throughout history..."

SIL: "Certain aspects of the entertainment industry....and our thing".

it was so funny because one of 'em had already used the economy as an excuse in the ep. And the camera showed him for just a sec before Ton said that as he looked right at him.

I just finished watching "Mr. Ruggerio's Neighborhood." (The season three opener.) It's the episode where the feds "bug" Tony's basement.

These are not quotes, but the code words used by the Feds to refer to Tony and family:

The Sausage Factory was the Sopranos house
Der Bingle was Tony (Der Bingle was Bing Crosby's nickname in real life)
Mrs. Bing was Carmela
Princess Bing was Meadow
Baby Bing was AJ

Season 3 Episode 6 "University"

Scene setter:
VIP Room of The Bing, Vito (pre-diet) and Bacala are talking face to face, with rotund stomachs almost touching.

Paulie Walnuts: Ohhh! Looka dat. It's like an ad for a weight loss center...........BEFORE and WAY BEFORE! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">

Then (as always) he repeats the line when he sees Tony.
