Official current Sopranos family pecking order?

1
Does Tony keep in his head an official current family pecking order? Obviously, Sil is the number two as consiglieri. But after that, does Tony-as a huge fan of military history and strategy-organize his troops in any specific fashion?

I think when we see Tony and his crew walking through the casino (right before they made the bet on the Meadow Gold horse), it looks like his crew lined up and reported for duty in the same order that they are in rank.

1-Tony, leading the way
2-Sil, consiglieri
3-Paulie, underboss-???
4-Bobby-up one spot from previous
5-Chirs-down one spot from previous

Not too sure if Paulie acts as an official underboss but it would be interesting to know if Tony considers himi in this particular capacity.

M0st organizations in America today have formal organizational charts... I wonder if Tony has one of his own.

i would still say Christopher ranks higher in Tony's mind than Bobby. He is a captain, which Bobby is not. He has been with Tony longer than Bobby and they share a stronger bond. Despite their issues, Tony knows Christopher is loyal after he didn't side with his fiance Adriana. Christopher is also better to have in a tough situation, remember Bobby just did his first hit and cried as he was doing it.

This was one of the ranks that I would dispute. Chris has been shown in recent episodes as uninterested and detached. In Sopranos Home Movies, when Tony was talking to Bobby on the boat, it seemed to me that he was offering Bobby Chris's old position.

Also, I'm not sure if Paulie is the official "underboss", especially with Tony being so paranoid.

It just seems almost as if the crew is becoming more unorganized. Early in the series it was Chris (I think) who was complaining to Brennan that many wiseguys these days don't even know who they are kicking up to. A structured, well-run regime wouldn't have these issues, and it appears as if the Soprano crew is falling into this category.

I definently agree that "The Soprano Family" has started to fall into the unorganized category. It appears Tony doesn't have a lot of options as top guys. Christopher has seemingly lost interest in "the life." Paulie doesn't have income coming in beside Barone Sanitation, which is drying up. And let's face it Bobby is a pussy. He has come along way since his timid early days, but I don't see him as the guy Tony would want by his side in a conflict. Remember from the episode "Remember When" that was what still impressed Tony about Paulie, was his moxie. He can handle himself like a 20 year old, I believe was Tony's comment to Beansy. He is a cold blooded killer without fear. Tony still also holds a soft spot in his heart for Christopher and will give him every oppurtunity in the world to be his "chosen one." Even though Bobby is more more stable and trustworthy.

Yeah, I remember that too (Janice's comments), but I do know that Bobby got some kind of bump in S4 when Junior acknowleged to Tony that Beppy couldn't handle things any more b/c he was getting old and they invited Bobby into the doctor's office. I just assumed he was made captain then.

But, Paulie is still underboss, 'bout 99.9% sure....

Yeah, Bobby isn't a Capo, he did get a bump in Season 4 when Junior said Murf couldn't handle it any more. I just watched that episode yesterday, they are unclear as to what the bump is. I believe he took over handling Junior's affairs while Junior was on trial (making his pick-ups and such) Remember before that Bobby just used to take care of Junior and pick up his prescriptions and such. I remember Bobby complaining to Tony about standing in line for 40 minutes at Rite-Aids to get Junior stool softner, or something. I think when he got the bump in Season 4 was him becoming a Made Guy.
