Sopranos 'Wikipedia' piece:Significance of EGGS on the show

Eggs on THE SOPRANOS:

Eggs foreshadow something unfortunate will occur, generally a loss of life, loss of rationality, or both. A similar foreshadowing occurs in The Godfather film series whenever oranges appear on screen.

1)
"Long Term Parking", Adriana offers to make Christopher eggs after admitting she has been working with the FBI. She is killed shortly after.

2)
In "Watching Too Much Television" Irina offers to make egg salad before Tony beats Zellman with a belt.

3)
In "Whoever Did This" Ralph offers to make Tony eggs for breakfast just before they fight and Tony murders him.

4)
In "Two Tonys" Carmine Lupertazzi suffers a stroke when eating egg salad; later, Uncle Junior asks Bobby to make Tony an egg, then calls Tony B. "Tony Egg" by mistake, right before the phone rings and it is announced that Carmine has died.

5)
Tony Soprano's goomah, Valentina, has her kimono catch on fire from the stove while preparing egg substitutes for Tony in "The Test Dream".

6)
Finally, Tony Soprano steps in broken eggs just before resolving to murder his cousin, Tony Blundetto in "All Due Respect".

7)
Richie Aprile offers to make Tony eggs when Tony finds him sleeping in Janice's house. He is shot by Janice a few episodes after that.

8
AJ offers Carmela a poorly made poached egg in the episode "College", later Tony kills Fabian Petrullio.

9)
Before Mikey Palmice is killed in "I Dream of Jeannie Cusamano", Carmela is seen making scrambled eggs.

10)

In "The Weight", while Junior and Tony are discussing ordering a hit on Johnny Sack they watch an episode of Who Wants To Be A Millionare where the contestant has used up all his lifelines and gets an answer wrong - the answer, "eggs."

About eggs. I haven't a clue but I'll take a stab.

In "Johnny Cakes," Tony makes the old "what comes first.." joke. Could it mean that eggs represent Duality? Duality in all it's various meanings.
Dualism
Life and death
Good and Evil
mind and matter
Tony's two families
Yen and Yang, etc.
Predator/prey

The show is full of these ideas. I've got to believe the eggs mean something along these lines. Something that supports life, yet is very fragile to outside influence. Be it a predator or the prenatal being's environment. Perhaps the shell of the egg is Tony? Power and weakness.

Any thoughts on this?

I always thought the eggs were a symbol of "walking on egg-shells". This seems specifically interesting when looking at All Due Respect, Tony steps on the eggs, before making a risky decision to murder Tony B. Making this decision, he is symbolically and literally walking on eggs, or eggshells. This seems relatively legitimate in the other instances offered as well. The All Due Respect is just a great example.

I agree with the post above "all due respect" that he is "walking on egg shells" but think it could be related to the scene that just took place along with the previous scenes that are all focused on his battle to not give up his cousin while keeping his crew content.

He had already had a confrontation with Silvio, his consilerige, where he could have listened to him and conversed reasonably but decided to take a hardline , threatening to "deal" with anyone who didn't like his way.

We had also seen disgruntled talk from senior guys like Vito, guys who could potentially over throw Tony.

Tony then goes to visit Paulie and is angered by the painting on the wall that he had ordered to be destroyed, he hates it because it painfully reminds him of the horse. He calms down and hears Paulie out but his overwhelming rage overrides reasoning that the situation calls for and rips it off the wall, throws it in the dumpster and steps back onto eggshells.

Tony is facing his toughest leadership test and he should not be isolating himself further from Paulie and Silvio, who are not only his most loyal guys but are guys that keep the lower ranks in order and prevent rebellion. By following up the heated confrontation with Silvio with an unnecessary aggressive meeting with Paulie over something as trivial as a painting of an animal, he is seriously stepping on egg shells.

This is a clever way of using the Eggs is dual meaning because as mentioned in the thread they are repetitively used throughout when a significant murder happens.
