damn this makes me 100% sure now that the ending was tony gettin' whacked and the "not knowing when it happens" aspect of it is for the viewer, not knowing when the ending is about to happen cuz it happens so abruptly outta nowhere when you were expecting to see it coming, the screen goes blank

You are not alone Liotta. The ending, as you described it is foreshadowed in various ways throughout the show and clues are liberally sprinkled in the sub-text. The only way the ending is open to interpretation is by ignoring all of this wonderful detail, in my opinion. You would do well not to make the same mistake I did and to read the various threads and great posts on the ending elsewhere on this site.

Incidentally Michael Imperioli in an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live has stated that he believed the final scene meant that Tony was "very dead".

Saw the same interview!!! It gave me chills kind of seeing that Michael is such a fan of the show himself!
