I Love Tony: A thread related to this topic exists in Sentimental Education, Carmela's Denial thread. Several of us have posted/speculated about this: Carmela noticed candy in gold box next to bed. She verbally indicated/assumed that it was a take-home favor from faculty lunch catered by Patty D'Amico. (Apparently this type of candy presentation is PD's business trademark) I am wondering if maybe it was in fact evidence that Patty had recently preceded Carm in Wegler's bed...suggesting that Wegler gets around (as did Father Intentola) more than may be initally realized...

I agree about the candy being significant; looks fishy that he brought it home from lunch and put by bed, more like Wegler is a womanizer and especially his student's moms. I predict a confrontation somewhere along these lines.
