List Your Favorite Sopranos Songs!!

#1
Let's list our favorite Sopranos songs. Think hard. Think of the songs that really added to the scene in which they were played. Think of the songs that, when you hear them, they bring you back to the series. Whether the songs leave you chuckling or bring a tear to your eye, list them here.

My list (in order of the most influential - may be edited in the future):

1. When It's Cold I'd Like to Die - Moby.
2. I'm Not Like Everybody Else - The Kinks.
3. American Girl - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.
4. Glad Tidings - Van Morrison.
5. Living on a Thin Line - The Kinks.
6. Moonlight Mile - The Rolling Stones.
7. I Feel Free - Cream.
8. Seven Souls - Material.
9. 4th of July - X.
10. Spitfire - Prodigy.
11. State Trooper - Bruce Springsteen.
12. Mystic Eyes - Them (featuring Van Morrison).
13. Sposa Son Disprezzata - Vivaldi.
14. Gloria - The Doors.
15. I Who Have Nothing - ? (help, anyone)

That's my list. Yours can be as short or as long as you like. You can also post what the song means to you and how it relates to the Sopranos. Have fun! :)

Welcome, Mr. Man. Great first post!

Here are the pieces of music which, either because of the composition itself or a particularly synergistic relationship with an important scene/episode (or both), stand out for me. In rough order of preference, they are:
  1. Chi il bel sogna di Doretto (from Puccini's La Rondine, eps 1.01. and 5.05)
  2. When It's Cold, I'd Like to Die (Moby, ep 6.02)
  3. Black Books (Nils Lofgren, ep 3.07)
  4. Con Te Partiro (Andrea Bocelli, see bobC's post below for ep details)
  5. Sposa son Disprezzata (Vivaldi, eps 3.11 and 3.12)
  6. I Saved the World Today (Annie Lennox, ep 2.12)
  7. Linkin Park techno song/Honeymooner theme (ending to ep 5.07)
  8. Heaven Only Knows (Emmylou Harris, ep 5.01)
  9. Living on a Thin Line (The Kinks, ep 3.06)
  10. Cello piece (name unknown, played during and after ep 1.05)

Off the top of my head I have one really BIG favorite:

"Con Te Partirò" (Time to Say Goodbye) by Andrea Bocelli (also as a duet with Sarah Brightman)

“The Sopranos” has used “Con Te Partirò” in several episodes:

Season 2
Episode 14, “Guy Walks into a Psychiatrist’s Office”
Episode 17, “Commendatori”
Episode 23, “Bust-Out”
Season 3
Episode 35, “The Telltale Moozadell”

some were born to sing the blues,
the movie never ends,
it goes on and on and on and on........

I am ashamed I forgot that one, especially since I went to a lot of trouble to include it on my own Rhapsody-compiled soundtrack for the series! I love that one as well.

I will now go back and edit my post to include it. Thanks, bobC!

I can't believe no one has mentioned "Thru and Thru" by the Stones. Season two had great starting and finishing montages using Sinatra's "It Was A Very Good Year" and then the Stones to end it with the above. And great Keith Richards vocals too.

Some other good ones mentioned above, especially "Black Books." In my mind, the wedding of music and action using that song and Carmela in Second Opinion was perhaps as good as it gets on The Sopranos, especially as it is used to end the episode. Just masterful!

hi,

Nils Lofgren - Black Books
Shawn Smith - Wrapped in my Memory
The Kinks - Living on a thin line
Tindersticks - Tiny Tears
Madreblu - Certamente
The Pretenders - Space Invader
Scout - State of Main
K. Richards - Thru & Thru (agree with DH, possibly the best ending ever)
Kasey Chambers - The Captain

for past season, but i think Stones' "Moonlight Mile" was great choice, esp the line with a head full of snow :icon_mrgreen:
